Regina Police have arrested a 29 year-old woman in relation to the alleged poisoning of a toddler.

During the evening of May 11th, police officers say they responded to assist EMS on a call of a 21 month-old-girl who was not breathing. Police and EMS administered emergency medical care and officers gathered statements from two adults in the home and the child’s parents who arrived after the police did. At the hospital investigators learned the child had acute ethanol poisoning.

An investigation into how the toddler came to be poisoned with ethanol and an antihistamine was carried out by the Regina Children’s Justice Centre, a specialized unit that combines police investigators, child protection workers, child abuse physicians and prosecutors in investigations of physical and sexual abuse of children.

As a result a 29 year-old Jessica Rae Fehr, who is not the child’s mother, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault (endangering the life of a victim) and Administering a Noxious Thing, alcohol and Benadryl).  Fehr made her first court appearance on Wednesday.
