Chief Mark Arcand has left the Saskatoon Tribal Council building this morning on an awareness walk around Circle Drive. The walk will traverse 24 kilometres and was announced Thursday in conjunction with a request by the Tribal Council to rename John A. McDonald Road. Chief Arcand believes renaming the street will lead to healing for the many people that have endured pain and suffering as a result of the residential school system. David Kirton, Councillor for the ward where the John A. Macdonald Road is located, and Mayor Charlie Clark, stated in a news release that they will begin the process to change the name of the street at the next Governance and Priorities Committee meeting.
