Canada’s population estimate in the second quarter increased to 38,131,104. That’s 151,250 more than for the same period a year ago and 82,366 more than in the first quarter.

Saskatchewan’s population in the second quarter measured 1,179,906. That was 288 more than a year ago. There was a dip in our population in the first quarter, relative to the second quarter a year ago so, as a result, we had a population increase here quarter-to-quarter of 1,074.

Statistics Canada says interprovincial migration accounted for an addition 3,965 people coming to Saskatchewan in Q1; but we lost 6,122 others.

At the international level, 144 people emigrated out of the province while 2,452 came to us in Q1.

We registered 2,913 deaths in the first quarter and 3,480 births.
