Boating Death
Creighton RCMP say a 48 year old Saskatoon man has died and five more were taken to hospital after three canoes capsized in a storm on Wednesday. This was on the south side of Amisk Lake. RCMP say six males were on a canoe trip when a severe storm caused large waves and overturned all three canoes around 4:30 in the afternoon.
The occupants stayed with the capsized canoes and floated until they reached cell range. They then called 9-1-1 using a cell phone stored in a waterproof container.
The Creighton RCMP Detachment, Flin Flon RCMP Detachment, Ministry of Environment Conservation Officers and members of the public located the group at approximately 8:30 p.m. using the GPS coordinates from that 9-1-1 call.
One of the males was unconscious when they located him. He was later transported to hospital and pronounced deceased. The other five males were transported to hospital in Flin Flon for assessment.
Dangerous and Wanted
Fort Qu’appelle RCMP are asking for the public’s help in tracking down a man they say is dangerous and wanted. The offence dates back to March 4, 2019 when RCMP were called to an armed robbery at a business on the Muscowpetung First Nation. The investigation led to several charges against 27-year-old Jarrett Poitras including Robbery with Firearm, Disguise with Intent, Pointing a Firearm, and Failure to Comply with Firearm’s Prohibition.
Jarrett Poitras failed to appear before the Queen Bench Court in Regina on June 18th, 2021, for a bail revocation hearing and as a result, a warrant for his arrest has been issued. Jarrett Poitras is described as being approximately 5’11” tall, 250 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
Jarrett Poitras’ last known location was Regina, but is also known to frequent Muscowpetung First Nation and Pasqua First Nation. Jarrett Poitras is considered dangerous and should not be approached.

Officer and Armed Suspect
Big River RCMP officers spotted a suspicious vehicle parked behind a business on Main Street in Debden which turned out to be stolen and when they sparked up a conversation with a man nearby, he allegedly drew a firearm and took off on foot.
This all started unfolding around 12:30 p.m. on Thursday and a large police response rolled out while Debden Public School engaged its secure-and-hold protocol.
Big River RCMP, Shellbrook RCMP, Spiritwood RCMP, Saskatchewan RCMP Police Dog Service, Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment Conservation Officers and Saskatchewan Highway Patrol Officers tracked down a suspect approximately three hours later in a yard in Debden.
Kyle Standing, age 23, from Wahpeton First Nation is charged with Assault on police officer with weapon, resist/obstruct a peace officer, carry a concealed weapon, possess weapon for dangerous purpose, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. He has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance on July 21st.
