The Saskathcewan Health Authority reports that in order to ensure residents have every opportunity to receive their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, it continues to add immunization clinics and options to make it easier and more convenient to be immunized.
This weekend there are clinics throughout the province, many targeted for first doses, but open to anyone eligible for immunization. The SHA has also added first dose Fast Track lanes to some drive-thru and walk-in clinics, and there are even special events in some communities, such as a clinic at in Regina at Mosaic Stadium with Saskatchewan Roughrider Alumni and Gainer the Gopher, or a first dose street clinic in downtown Saskatoon, both on Saturday.
Additionally, in response to updated statements by the National Advisory Committee on Immunization, Saskatchewan’s clinical experts have recommended that people in Saskatchewan who received AstraZeneca as their first dose be offered the choice of receiving AstraZeneca or an mRNA vaccine (Pfizer/Moderna) as their second dose.
Where AstraZeneca is on hand, residents who had it as a first dose will be offered the choice of either AstraZeneca or an mRNA vaccine for their second dose. The SHA says AstraZeneca remains a safe vaccine and two doses are effective against severe disease and hospitalization.
