Big River RCMP officers spotted a suspicious vehicle parked behind a business on Main Street in Debden which turned out to be stolen and when they sparked up a conversation with a man nearby, he allegedly drew a firearm and took off on foot.
This all started unfolding around 12:30 p.m. on Thursday and a large police response rolled out while Debden Public School engaged its secure-and-hold protocol.
Big River RCMP, Shellbrook RCMP, Spiritwood RCMP, Saskatchewan RCMP Police Dog Service, Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment Conservation Officers and Saskatchewan Highway Patrol Officers tracked down a suspect approximately three hours later in a yard in Debden.
Kyle Standing, age 23, from Wahpeton First Nation is charged with Assault on police officer with weapon, resist/obstruct a peace officer, carry a concealed weapon, possess weapon for dangerous purpose, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. He has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance on July 21st.
