Two men are in custody after a police drug trafficking investigation led to one man being hit with a taser.

At approximately 4:58 p.m. on Friday, officers report some activity consistent with drug trafficking in the 3300 block of Fairlight Drive.  Police stopped the driver of a vehicle and allegedly located a loaded sawed off rifle along with methamphetamine and fentanyl.  The 22 year-old man was arrested without incident.

A second man who was seen walking away from the vehicle after reportedly making a drug transaction began to run when he saw police. Officers pursued him on foot and were able to locate him attempting to hid in a backyard in the 200 block of Fairmont Drive. As officers approached, they observed a can of bear mace which had fallen to the ground. The suspect then allegedly reached into his waistband when confronted by police and a CEW was deployed successfully. He was taken into custody without further incident.

The 22 year-old man is facing a total of 13 charges which include possession for the purpose of trafficking of methamphetamine and fentanyl, possession of a controlled substance, proceeds of crime, breach of release order, possession of a loaded firearm in a vehicle, along with numerous other weapons related offences. He also had a warrant for arrest for robbery.

The 25 year-old man is facing a total of seven charges which include possession for the purpose of trafficking of methamphetamine and fentanyl, possession of a controlled substance, possession of weapon dangerous, resist arrest, and breach of a release order.

The incident will be reviewed in accordance with Saskatoon Police Service policy.
