The Canadian Union of Public Employees is staging a rally and march at 4:45 this afternoon. They will gather at the Saskatoon Public Schools Office on 21st Street and march to the Saskatoon Cabinet Office on 22nd. The union is protesting what it refers to as sweeping cuts to staffing levels and programs in Saskatoon public schools, and to demand increased education funding. CUPE 8443 President Dene Nicholson says, “These cuts will impact Saskatoon’s most vulnerable students, with layoffs targeting community schools, supports for English as an additional language, and libraries.”
