Hundreds cheered at the Bessborough Thursday night as Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau entered the room ahead of his town hall meeting in Saskatoon. Trudeau answered questions from those both young and old on a variety of topics including the carbon tax. He says with the carbon pricing, families in Saskatchewan will earn more each year in the years to come. “What we’re doing on pricing pollution in Saskatchewan, actually returns to the average family of four this year, just over $600 dollars more than you’ll be paying with the price on pollution.” Trudeau says next year families will be better off by over $900 with the price on carbon and in 2022, residents will be $1500 better off every year as the country has taken steps to a low carbon future. The Liberal Leader also said the Saskatchewan government is spending millions of dollars to fight the Liberal Carbon Tax in court. Many in the audience shared their positive comments in regards to Trudeau’s first four years in power. One lady, who said she was a fan of Trudeau, shared her story of being a single mom and how far she has come. Trudeau responded by saying more needs to be done to ensure single moms are able to raise their kids. Trudeau says the reason being because there are extra costs when you have a newborn. Trudeau also apologized for his blackface/brownface makeup photos that have come to light over the last few days. In 2001, Trudeau wore the make up for a “Arabian Night” costume party. Trudeau told those in attendance Thursday that what he did was inexcusable and wrong. Earlier in the day Thursday, Trudeau was in Winnipeg where he also he also commented on his blackface makeup photos, saying he is deeply embarrassed by his actions. Several local leaders were in the audience last night (thurs) in Saskatoon including FSIN Vice-Chief David Pratt and the Saskatoon Open Door Society’s Ali Abukar.
