Georgina Jolibois, the NDP candidate for Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River says mixed messages from the Liberals show that the people of Northern Saskatchewan can’t count on them to fight for their communities. Jolibois says, earlier this week, the Liberals said they would fund the clean-up costs of the closed Gunner uranium mine on Lake Athabasca. It has been closed since 1953. But, less than a month ago, Jolibois says a Liberal minister insisted the province is responsible for the cleanup and the feds would contribute no more than the $12.3 million already made. Jolibois says, “When they’re campaigning, the Liberals will say whatever it takes to get elected. But when they’re in government, it’s a completely different story.”
