Royal LePage has surveyed over three million boomers in Canada who are considering buying a home within the next five years.
Phil Soper, President and CEO, Royal LePage says, “The boomer generation appears to have no intention of slowing down.” He says, “This huge demographic is enjoying an empty nest and believes real estate is a good investment.”
In Saskatchewan and Manitoba, Thirty-two per cent of boomers are considering purchasing a home within the next five years.
57 per cent of respondents in the Prairies said they would purchase a detached house if they were to buy, while 26 per cent said they would prefer an apartment/condominium.
Norm Fisher, broker and owner, Royal LePage Vidorra, in Saskatoon says, “I’ve seen many cases where boomers have moved to their secondary properties on the lake in retirement, but they don’t always sell their primary residences.” He says, “Home prices are more affordable in Saskatchewan, so established homeowners can afford to keep both.”
Boomers are people born between 1946 and 1965.
