SaskPower has recorded a new summer power demand record. At 2:50 Wednesday afternoon power demand set a new record of 3,543 megawatts, up 19 megawatts from the previous record set in August of 2018. The all-time record was set on December 29th of 2017 with 3792 megawatts of power.

Kory Hayko, Vice President of Transmission and Industrial Services at SaskPower, says it’s expected this record will be broken, with higher temperatures in the forecast this week. He adds that despite the power demand in this heat wave, SaskPower is poised to continue to provide stable and reliable power to the province.

Tips to reduce power consumption include ensuring your air conditioner and furnace are operating efficiently by having routine inspections, investing in a programmable thermostat, close blinds and curtains during the daytime to keep the heat out, and delay activities that produce heat and moisture, such as dish washing, until later in the day or in the evening when temperatures are cooler.
