Sum Theatre’s artistic director says they believe in making professional live theatre free and that remains the case for the 9th annual Theatre in the Park presentation at parks throughout Saskatoon.  It kicked off Friday and performances will continue through July 30th in Saskatoon and then branches off to other communities in August.

Joel Bernbaum notes that during the pandemic, they brought outdoor theatre to long term care homes, and they also partnered with La Troupe de Jour for a show on ice.  This summer’s unique performance is a completely original rock opera, taking on racism.  Bernbaum considers the show timely as Canada grapples with its past.  It’s a family-friendly show with original rock music and giant puppets.

The performances are free, but for safety reasons around the pandemic, you need to register ahead of time on Sum Theatre’s website.

Bernbaum says, “It’s our hope that Theatre in the Park makes our community a little bit stronger, a little bit kinder and a little bit more connected”.
