Monday afternoon around 2:15, Punnichy RCMP responded to a report of a man armed with a rifle and making threats at Gordon First Nation.

In the course of events, the responding police officers discharged a firearm and injured the man.

RCMP say the officers performed life-saving measures on the man until the Lestock Emergency Medical Service arrived. However, the man died shortly after.

RCMP have asked for an independent external police investigation into the incident. Weyburn Police will be conducting this investigation.

RCMP have also asked the Saskatchewan Ministry of Justice and Attorney General to appoint an independent investigation observer and  a second independent observer of First Nation ancestry.
