The City of Saskatoon is beginning the process of changing the name of John A. Macdonald Road in Saskatoon.
The city says the work is being undertaken to, “Recognize the ongoing harm in the community experienced by those who attended residential schools.”

The city says in the coming months, the city will be engaging with Indigenous leaders, Survivors, Elders and Knowledge Keepers on a new name. In addition, the City will host public information sessions with property owners and residents currently living on John A. Macdonald Road as well as with the broader community to listen to concerns and answer any questions residents may have about the renaming.

The City says it is looking at options to manage potential costs to individuals associated with the address name change and to provide support where possible.
