SaskPower is offering some tips to conserve energy as this week will see temperatures in the thirties once again.
Spokesperson Joel Cherry says reducing power consumption during this heatwave, especially during peak hours, will prevent the grid from being overly taxed and keep power bills lower. He says even doing something like increasing the temperature on an air conditioner by a degree can make a substantial difference if enough people are doing so. Cherry explains a single degree difference during an 8 hour period can also save as much as two per cent on your power bill, he adds every little bit helps.
Cherry says other tips include everything from closing blinds and window coverings during the day to keep the heat out, and making sure lights and electronics are turned off when no one’s in the room.
Cherry says, in June, SaskPower recorded a new summer power demand record of 3,547 megawatts, and expects similar numbers this week.
