Health Minister Patty Hajdu said today that for those wanting to embark on non-essential travel, fully vaccinated Americans can start coming to Canada on August 9th, and international travellers can start coming to the country a month after that. As well, travellers will have to provide COVID-19-related information electronically through ArriveCAN including proof of vaccination prior to departing for Canada, they must meet the pre-entry testing requirements; be asymptomatic upon arrival; and have a paper or digital copy of their vaccination documentation in English or French ready to show a government official on request. All travellers must still present a suitable quarantine plan, and be prepared to quarantine, should they not meet all of the conditions required to be exempt from quarantine.

For families with children under 12 they will be exempt from quarantine but they will still have to follow strict public health measures. And those who are not vaccinated or partially vaccinated will still be required to complete 14 day quarantine as well as Day 1 and Day 8 tests. Health Minister Patty Hajdu provided an update Monday on the status of the border closure between Canada and the U.S. She says they are introducing random testing even for those who can prove they are fully vaccinated as a way to keep track of variants. The three night required government hotel stay will be eliminated for all air travellers so unvaccinated or partially vaccinated travellers can go straight to their quarantine location for 14 days. Pre-departure testing is still required regardless of vaccination status.
