The Saskatoon Public Library will make a pitch today (mon) for a new $154 million dollar central library to the city’s governance and priorities committee. The current Frances Morrison Library was built in 1966 to serve a population of 115,000. The city’s population has since doubled and passed 115,000. In an email to CJWW News, the Library service says the Library Board has shortlisted locations downtown for the possible new site, although a location will not be named until a land deal has been reached. Construction on the new location would start in 2022 and take three years, leading to $132 million dollars in economic activity during the construction process. It’s hoped the new branch would open in the year 2026. Today’s committee meeting gets underway at 1 o’clock at City Hall.
