Shute Re-Signed by Rush to Block Shots

Adam Shute is returning to the Saskatchewan Rush for a third year.

A Calgary product and goaltender, Shute and the Rush agreed to terms on a one-year N-L-L contract Tuesday morning. Shute was drafted in 2014 in the second round by the Rush. The Calgary product made the active Saskatchewan roster in 2018. G-M Derek Keenan says Shute is capable of starting, but that remains to be seen with Evan Kirk still likely to be in the fold for the upcoming 2021-22 season. SHUTE SADDLES UP FOR ANOTHER SEASON WITH RUSH

Saskatchewan Rush General Manager Derek Keenan announced today that the club has re-signed goaltender Adam Shute to a new one-year contract.

Although he has primarily been used in the back-up role, Shute has all the making of a top-notch starter in the National Lacrosse League, and he exhibited those skills during a critical juncture of the Rush’s 2019 season. With Evan Kirk sidelined due to injury, Shute stepped in and won four in a row during a run of five consecutive starts.

That streak included Shute’s second career road win – both coming in Vancouver – his first-ever home-turf victory also coming against Vancouver, a key win over division rival Colorado, and a stellar road-home weekend doubleheader performance that saw him notch 39 saves in a win in San Diego followed less than 24 hours later with a 42-save verdict over Philadelphia.

Shute finished the 2019 season with a 5-3 record and ranked second amongst NLL goalies with a 10.30 goal-against-average. He also earned a top-10 spot with a .772 save-percentage in 483 minutes of action. During the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, the 6-foot-4, 210-pound netminder boasted an .833 save-percentage.

“We have a ton of confidence in Adam Shute,” said Keenan. “When Evan Kirk was out with an injury, Adam was excellent for the Rush and proved he can step in and be a starter in the NLL.

“We are really happy to have him back between the pipes for the Rush.”

The Calgary, Alberta, product was selected in the second round of the 2014 NLL Entry Draft out of New England College. He eventually made the Rush’s active roster in 2018.
