Chokecherry Studios says it will be painting Commemorative Crosswalks on Broadway Ave at Main and 9th Street Thursday, starting at 3:00 pm.

It’s being done in response to the recent discoveries of unmarked graves at former Residential School sites across the country. The project aims to honour Residential School Survivors and all Stolen Indigenous Children.

The design incorporates a feather motif on an orange ribbon with Cree syllabics which translate to ‘memory’ or ‘remembrance.’

The inspiration came from community member and 60’s Scoop Survivor, Rob Denham. He suggested painting crosswalks at Saskatoon intersections to memorialize Indigenous Children who never returned to their families
from Residential Schools.
