Statistics Canada says the multi-unit residential component of building construction investment was the only component to post a decline for the month of July, and that was mainly the result of decreases in BC and Saskatchewan. Our numbers for residential construction investment plummeted 20 per cent, to $151 million. Three other provinces registered declines but nothing as dramatic as that. The national average was a slight increase of 0.6 per cent.
On the non-residential side, construction investment rose in Saskatchewan 2.4 per cent. That was second only to the rise of 2.5 per cent in Nova Scotia. The national average was an increase of 0.3 per cent. Total investment in Saskatchewan was $134.5 million.
