With dry conditions in fields this summer, farmers should prepare for worst when it comes to grassfires.
That from farmer and interim Fire Chief of the Englefeld Fire Department, Lloyd Knafelc, who says if farmer can hook up a piece of equipment like a full water tank, it could go a long way. Knafelc explains conditions are very dry and says with crops starting to turn, if a fire developed in a standing crop, he’s not sure how it could be stopped.
Knafelc says every little bit helps and would go a long way to help smaller fire departments. He has first hand experience with a bailer that started on fire and knows how fast it can get out of control.
Knafelc recommends farmers have something ready, no matter where they are in the province.
