There are 132 active wildfires in the province with 18 not contained. Seven are contained and 20 involve protecting property. There have been 516 wildfires this year and the five year average is 243.
There are numerous public alerts for special statements on air quality due to smoke from wildfires or heat warnings, and in some locations in Saskatchewan, both.
Smoke from forest fires scattered across central Saskatchewan is causing poor air quality and reduced visibility at times near and downwind from these fires over central and east central areas of the province. As well, hazy conditions will persist over the remainder of southern Saskatchewan due mainly to smoke that has drifted in from fires over BC.
Unseasonably hot temperatures also continue through parts of Saskatchewan. Daytime temperatures will hover in the low to mid thirties for many locales with overnight lows staying in the teens.
