Residential Streets in Saskatoon could see speed limits decreased to 40 kilometres per hour.
Saskatoon City Council’s Transportation Committee will review a recommendation from city administration to lower speed limits in local and collector streets.
The recommendation is based off of a recent speed limit review, and administration says it will improve safety, lower traffic noise and will result in very little change to travel time.
The estimated costs to change out speed limit signs would be between $400,000 to $600,000, depending on how many streets are changed.
While members of Council will be able to review the recommendations, the report has been tabled to September’s transportation meeting, to give council and the general public time to review the proposed changes. City administration reports the recommendation to lower residential speed limits in Saskatoon is consistent with recent decisions in Calgary and Edmonton to do the same.
