Battleford RCMP had 580 calls for service between August 18 and August 24. Shortly after 6 am on Tuesday, a suspect allegedly approached a male sitting in his truck, assaulted him, and drove away in the victim’s truck. The suspect was known to the victim. Police found the truck but say the driver fled from police when attempts were made to stop him. He was found again after the truck became stuck near Finlayson island. The suspect fled on foot but was apprehended with the assistance of the Police Dog Unit. The man sustained minor injuries, was treated in hospital and remanded into custody. 23 year old Brendin Cuthand has been charged with Flight from a Peace Officer, Dangerous Driving, Robbery, Resisting Arrest, Breach of Recognizance, Breach of Probation, Mischief, and Disturbing the Peace. He is in court today (wed).
A 28 year old man was arrested and charged with Assault and Mischief after a report of people fighting in a yard on the 300 block of 27th Street in Battleford. Police say the accused was was still actively assaulting the victim when police arrived. He was arrested without incident. He has since been released from custody with a future court date in September on conditions of no contact with the victim. The victim did not sustain any significant injuries during the incident.
On August 18th, shortly after midnight, Battleford RCMP were on patrol on the Moosomin First Nation and conducted a vehicle stop. The vehicle initially pulled over but as the member approached, it sped away while allegedly swerving towards the officer. He was forced to quickly move out of the way and sustained a minor injury to his hand. It was later determined that the vehicle was stolen. An arrest warrant has been issued for 22 year old Brent Mosquito on charges of Assaulting a Police Officer, Flight from Police, Driving while Prohibited, Possession of Stolen Property and Failing to Comply with a Release Order.
