The University of Regina’s Fall 2021 term began Monday, and has, what the University describes as, a measured, safe reopening.
The Fall term is being described as transitional, to safely position the University to return to near-normal operations in the Winter term which begins in January.
The university is requiring proof of vaccination or – alternatively – regular, non-invasive, rapid antigen testing for students, faculty, and staff. Pandemic protocols also include masking, physical distancing where appropriate, and enhanced cleaning/sanitation. Individuals are also asked to conduct daily wellness checks and to stay home if they feel unwell.
About 22 per cent of classes are to be delivered in-person, on-campus.
4,000 to 5,000 students will be attending classes in-person. This will include staggered class schedules spread out across the campuses.
Cougars and Rams student-athletes will be resuming Canada West competition.
Many in-person services and facilities will be available for student and public use.
Preliminary enrolment numbers show an approximate 2.6 per cent decline in the number of students enrolled for the first day of classes compared to the same time last year. The university says this is not unexpected given the ongoing uncertainty around the global pandemic, particularly for international students who are facing travel and other restrictions.
These are preliminary enrolment numbers only and the University’s official enrolment for the 2021-22 academic year will be released in early October.
