Over the noon hour on Monday, Meadow Lake RCMP were dispatched to a call about an man who was unconscious and not breathing in a community in their detachment area. Officers administered Naloxone and began CPR on the man, who regained consciousness shortly after. Police say the man is expected to recover.
Staff Sgt. Ryan How, from the Meadow Lake Detachment, says this is a great example of what can happen when someone recognizes the symptoms of an overdose and calls for help. Emergency responders, including the RCMP, are trained to provide immediate care when they arrive at the scene of an overdose.
August 31st is International Overdose Awareness Day. The Saskatchewan RCMP note that if you or someone you know is at risk of opioid overdose, you an buy a Naloxone kit at many pharmacies, and they are available through the province’s Take Home Naloxone Program.
