Just because it’s the Labour Day long weekend, that doesn’t mean it’s a free-for-all when it comes to the use of fireworks in Saskatoon. The Saskatoon Fire Department reminds residents that only low-hazard fireworks can be discharged on private property, and only on Labour Day Monday between dusk and 11 p.m. Low-hazard fireworks travel less than 50 feet high and include items such as roman candles, sparklers, fountains, wheels, volcanoes, mines and snakes. These are designed for public, recreational use. High-hazard fireworks are only for use by professionals with a valid Fireworks Supervisor card. The S-F-D reminds those people who intend on setting off their own fireworks to follow all recommended safety practices for users and spectators.
