The City of Warman will be maintaining the status quo and will not implement further health measures. A motion was passed to that effect at a special meeting Thursday evening.
Both Regina and Saskatoon have implemented things like mandatory masking on city buses, which is over and above any directive from the province.
Mayor Gary Philipchuk says their council maintains the position that Health is a provincial jurisdiction, “I guess if they don’t feel to go into any provincial facilities right now that you need to have any restrictions, and they oversee health, where is it in our sort-of jurisdiction to be looking after that at a municipal level.”
Warman City Council also passed a motion that a letter will be sent to the Health Minister, as well as other government representatives, outlining their disappointment in the lack of leadership provided by the government in relation to health measures for the COVID-19 pandemic.
