Calls to 9-11 resulted in an arrest for impaired driving along the Trans-Canada in southwest Saskatchewan where a vehicle allegedly drove upwards of 200 kilometres an hour during the incident.
Around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday night, Swift Current Rural RCMP received reports of an erratic car travelling at a high rate of speed, eastbound, on Highway #1 near Gull Lake. Callers reported a windshield that was partially smashed out and no lights on except the hazards. The car was described as stopping and starting multiple times on the highway and driving in the wrong direction.
Officers located an unregistered car and tried to pull it over which is when they say it not only reached speeds of as much as 200 kilometres an hour but it also stopped multiple times. For officer safety reasons, a spike belt was not deployed and instead, because the vehicle was now so close to the City of Swift current, police – concerned for public safety – say they “made strategic contact with the car” and pushed it into the ditch.
No one was hurt, and 39 year old Faith Prince of Manitoba is facing several charges including flight from police, impaired, dangerous operation of a vehicle and she was also wanted on several warrants out of Manitoba. RCMP thanks the many witnesses who picked up the phone to call in and report. Prince is in court today.
