The Saskatoon & Region Homebuilders Association is pleased to see housing and affordability as key issues in the federal election.
CEO Jason Yochim says although Saskatchewan doesn’t have the skyrocketing prices similar to cities like Vancouver and Toronto, he understands that affordability can still be an issue in this province.
Part of the affordability deals with the fees, taxes, the cost of materials and labour, and Yochim says the SRHA is always trying to work on those avenues to keep the pricing more affordable.
He notes that a recent bank survey listed Saskatchewan as one of the most affordable places to live in Canada.
The SRHA takes issue with the Liberal party’s promise to ban blind bidding.
Yochim explains that this can be an in the larger centres, but it’s not an issue in Saskatchewan, so he suggests this should not be a blanket ban across the country because housing can be a very local issue.
