The Saskatchewan NDP is calling for emergency measures to make sure protests don’t happen at hospitals, clinics or pharmacies. Opposition Critic for Justice, Nicole Sarauer, says the government can enact a public health order mandating safe zones around these facilities. She suggests the government has the power to do so, but another option would be for the Sask Party to recall the legislature and pass emergency legislation.
Leader Ryan Meili says the harassment and intimidation of patients, families and healthcare workers needs to stop. He notes that health care workers could be caring for some of these same protesters in the future if they contract the virus. Meili says Saskatchewan has the worst COVID situation in the country, and he believes if emergency measures had been enacted, we wouldn’t be in this situation.
