If you see a large group of cyclists heading down Highway 11 this weekend, that would be those who are taking part in the fourth annual Saskatchewan Police Memorial Ride to Remember.
33 Saskatchewan police officers are taking part in the 450 kilometre trek from North Battleford to Regina in honour of those who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
Tony Nadon, a Staff Sergeant with the Saskatoon Police Service is taking part in the cycling journey. He says the ride is quite significant as they remember their brothers and sisters they may have known and worked with.
The 33 officers will arrive in Regina in time for a special ceremony at the Legislative Building on Sunday. The 16th edition of the Saskatchewan Police and Peace Officer Memorial will have a number of dignitaries in attendance to pay their respects.
The ceremony coincides with the National Police and Peace Officers Memorial Day ceremony in Ottawa. The National Police and Peace Officers Memorial Day in Ottawa was established in 1998 and is held on the last Sunday of September.
Those taking part in this year’s Saskatchewan Police Memorial Ride to Remember made their way to Saskatoon Thursday afternoon and left for Regina at 8 a.m. Friday morning.
