An inquest into the death of Samwel Uko (pictured) has been postponed until further notice by Saskatchewan’s Chief Coroner.
The decision was made in order to adapt to the COVID-19 protocols announced Thursday by Premier Scott Moe and in consultation with the inquest coroner, the inquest counsel and the parties with standing. Samwel Uko’s family has been notified of the decision. The inquest had been scheduled for September 20-24, at the Ramada Plaza in Regina. The 20-year-old man was seen entering into Wascana Lake in Regina and submerging under the water on May 21, 2020. Witnesses called 911 and searchers located Mr. Uko deceased in the lake later that day. He had visited the emergency room at the Regina General Hospital twice on the day he died. The inquest will be rescheduled for a later date, depending on the need to maintain the safety and health of everyone.
