Saskatchewan recorded its highest single-day number of COVID-19-related deaths since May 14 in the latest dashboard update from the provincial government website.
The latest numbers showed seven novel coronavirus-related fatalities, the same as the May 14 update. Saskatchewan has now had 637 total deaths because of positive COVID-19 infections. Otherwise, the latest update showed a sixth consecutive day of more than 400 new cases with 91 of the 472 new cases contracted by children under 12 years of age, who are ineligible to be vaccinated. Add in 299 recoveries and the province’s active case count is 4,234. From that number, 223 individuals are in hospital, including 50 infections in an I-C-U. Additionally, 3,287 doses of COVID-19 vaccine were administered along with 4,248 tests.
Highlights
- As of September 17th, there are 472 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the total to 61,065 reported cases.
- The new cases are located in the Far North West (16), Far North East (26), North West (60), North Central (27), North East (23), Saskatoon (80), Central West (9), Central East (24), Regina (54), South West (27), South Central (34) and South East (46) zones and 46 new cases have pending residence information.
- Nineteen (19) cases with pending residence information were reassigned to the Far North West (from September 4 (1), September 12 (1)), Far North East (from September 12 (1), September 13 (1)), North West (from September 2 (1), September 15 (3)), North Central (from September 15 (1)), North East (from September 14 (5), September 15 (1)), Central West (from September 15 (1)), Central East (from September 15 (1)), Regina (from September 15 (1)), and South Central (from September 14 (1)).
- Four (4) SK residents tested out-of-province were added to the case counts in Saskatoon (from September 13 (1), September 14 (1)), Regina (from September 14 (1)), and South Central (from September 10 (1)).

- 4,234 cases are considered active and 56,194 cases are considered recovered.
- Over one-third (35.2%) of new cases are in the 19 years and under age category.
- One in seven (13.6%) new cases were fully vaccinated.
- As of September 17th, a total of 223 individuals are hospitalized; including 173 inpatient hospitalizations and 50 ICU hospitalizations. Of the 223 patients, 165 (74.0%) were not fully vaccinated.
- Seven (7) new deaths reported today. 637 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 have died with a case fatality rate of 1.0%.
- 1,082,355 COVID-19 tests have been performed in the province. As of September 16th, 2021, Saskatchewan’s per capita rate was 901,501 tests performed per million. The national rate was 1,101,466 tests performed per million.
- The seven-day average of new COVID-19 cases is 444 (36.9 new cases per 100,000).
