A Saskatoon man has been arrested and faces eight charges, half of them for assaulting a police officer, after a Monday evening multiple stolen vehicles incident that required three attempts at deflating the tires before the suspect driver could be apprehended.
Police received a report at about 7:40 p.m. on September 20 about a stolen S-U-V from a business in the 2600 block of Avenue C North. The vehicle was equipped with G-P-S that allowed officers to locate it. The vehicle kept going after the first two attempts to use a tire deflation device. When the third attempt at using a tire deflation device was successful, the suspect abandoned the S-U-V near where he had stolen it in the 2600 block of Avenue C North, then stole a cube van.
With that vehicle, the suspect struck three police vehicles and a house in the 800 block of Avenue S North before officers were finally able to arrest him following a long, winding pursuit throughout the north and west areas of the city. Saskatoon Police say a 27 year old man was taken into custody and they also seized a knife at the time of the arrest. No one was seriously hurt in the incident.
