Minimum wage in Saskatchewan, effective next Friday, will increase to $11.81 an hour. The Saskatchewan government says it is the 13th increase to the minimum wage for a total increase over over 48 per cent since 2007. The increase works out to $0.36 an hour more.
An indexation formula was introduced in 2010 which is intended to give equal weight to changes to the Consumer Price Index and Average Hourly Wage for Saskatchewan. Increases are announced in June and take effect October 1st.
With the increase Saskatchewan is second only to New Brunswick for lowest minimum wage in Canada.
The Saskatchewan Federation of Labour was calling for a $15.00 and hour minimum wage as recently as this past summer.
