A last minute Cody Fajardo touchdown got the Roughriders the 31-24 win over the Lions at BC Place Friday night. Fajardo was confused for a few seconds following the quarterback sneak on third down at the crowded goal line as he heard fans cheering. Once he saw the signal for a touchdown, he realized that it was a number of Roughrider fans cheering following the play that put the Roughriders ahead in the final minutes. Fajardo credited the offensive line with helping get to the end zone when speaking with the media following the game. “We talked about it being a playoff game and that’s kind of how it comes down. Drawing back to 2019, right, against Winnipeg similar situation where we gotta punch it in there. I thought the offensive line did a great job with the push that we needed.” The QB threw for 279 yards, one touchdown and one interception on the night. Fajardo’s counterpart, Michael Rielly passed for 259 with a pair of touchdowns. The CFL is now idle until Tuesday night when Week 9 of the pandemic shortened season kicksoff in Ottawa with the REBLACKS hosting Edmonton. The Riders are off until Saturday when they visit the Stampeders in Calgary.
