Unfortunately for Ethan Chadwick, The Legends Centre in Warman is not the Saskatoon Blades’ home rink. Fortunately for the 17-year-old Saskatoon product, Chadwick was able to put forth a fabulous performance when he and the team needed it, stopping all 20 shots he faced as the Bridge City Bunch blanked the Prince Albert Raiders 2-0 Saturday night.
A week earlier, Chadwick was torched for seven goals on 20 shots over two periods as the Blue and Gold lost 7-3 to Edmonton at SaskTel Centre. On Saturday, the former Saskatoon Contacts’ Under-18 AAA star bettered his previous appearance as a Blade at The Legends Centre with a shutout performance. Two years ago in a pre-season game, Chadwick back-stopped Saskatoon to a 4-3 victory over P-A with 39 saves. On Saturday, he out-duelled former Contacts’ goaltending mate Max Hildebrand, who was stellar in his own right with 25 saves for the Raiders. But, the son of Blades’ Associate G-M Steve Hildebrand did surrender power-play goals to Jayden Wiens (pictured) and German forward Moritz Elias. The Bridge City Bunch finish the pre-season with a 3-1-0 record, while Prince Albert is done at 1-3-0. Next Friday and Saturday, the W-H-L regular-season starts for both teams with home-and-home series against different opponents. The Blue and Gold open Friday in Moose Jaw, then host the Warriors Saturday at SaskTel Centre, while the Raiders host Connor Bedard and the Pats Friday at the Art Hauser Centre before visiting Regina Saturday. Following are post-game comments from head coach Brennan Sonne, Chadwick and Elias, plus the game summary courtesy the W-H-L…..
