Saskatchewan’s Premier has accepted the resignation of one of his MLA’s from caucus. An email from the Saskatchewan Caucus office Thursday morning indicates Premier Scott Moe has accepted Saskatchewan Rivers MLA Nadine Wilson’s resignation from the government caucus as a result of her misrepresenting her vaccination status.
Wilson has been MLA for the Saskatchewan Rivers riding since 2007. She was re-elected for her fourth term in 2020. The electoral district is located at the forks – where the North and South Saskatchewan Rivers converge and includes communities such as Big River, Choiceland as well as Debden, Meath Park, Candle Lake, Smeaton and Christopher Lake.
The Saskatchewan Party Caucus has confirmed that all 47 remaining Saskatchewan Party MLAs are fully vaccinated.
As of Friday proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test result will be required from employees before they enter the workplace and this applies to employees of the Government of Saskatchewan; a Crown corporation; any agency, board or commission of the Government of Saskatchewan, including appointed and elected members and directors; the Provincial Auditor of Saskatchewan; an Officer of the Legislative Assembly; and a constituency office of a member of the Legislative Assembly.
During a news conference Thursday afternoon in Saskatoon, Premier Scott Moe and SaskParty Caucus Chair, David Buckingham said that Wilson verbally told the party earlier this year that she was fully vaccinated. Although when recently asked for documentation, it was found that one member wasn’t vaccinated, which was Wilson. Buckingham said the act was unacceptable. Premier Moe says if Wilson would like to continue on as Independent, the vaccination status or proof of a negative COVID-19 test would still apply to her. The SaskParty says they can confirm that their other 47 members are fully vaccinated. Wilson was seen in the Legislative Assembly earlier this year wearing a first dose of COVID-19 vaccine sticker.
