A child has been found safe after Buffalo Narrows RCMP responded to a report of a woman in distress by the lagoon near Buffalo Narrows early Thursday morning. The woman told officers that a man, who was a passenger in her vehicle had stolen the car and that her baby was still inside.

Less than two hours later, officers located the car pulled over still running on Highway 155 south of Buffalo Narrows. The man was found sleeping in the driver’s seat. After failed attempts at waking up the driver, police smashed the passenger window to shut off the car. The child was then found asleep in the back seat in their car seat. 18 year-old Riley Lemaigre of Prince Albert is facing a number of charges including kidnapping without a firearm. He is due in court on Monday in La Loche.
