Whoever coined the phrase, “Turnabout is fair play,” had the Saskatoon Blades in mind Saturday night.
In the first W-H-L regular-season game played at SaskTel Centre in 575 days, the Bridge City Bunch rebounded from a 7-1 thrashing Friday in Moose Jaw to double up the Warriors 4-2 in front of 4,352 fans. Just as it was Friday in Moose Jaw, the home team was out-shot and out-chanced Saturday, but received superior goaltending and special teams play to garner the two points. Nolan Maier bounced back from Friday’s sub-par effort to stop 32 of 34 shots while the Blue and Gold killed off all four Warriors’ power plays and scored a short-handed goal in the process. That tally by Tristen Robins turned out to be the game-winner, making a winner of Brennan Sonne (pictured), his first win as a W-H-L and Blades’ head coach. Trevor Wong and Josh Paulhus notched their first goals in a Saskatoon uniform to stake the Bridge City Bunch to a 2-0 lead after the first period. Robins’ short-handed tally made it 3-1 in the third period and Kyle Crnkovic finished the game scoring into an empty net. Next action for the Blue and Gold is Saturday in Brandon to open another home-and-home series with the return match at SaskTel Centre on October 13th. Following are CJWW’s Post-Game Show interviews Les Lazaruk did with Sonne, Maier and Robins, plus the game summary, courtesy the W-H-L…..
