There are two five-week murder trials which will conclude this week.
A non-jury trial is underway in North Battleford Court of Queen’s Bench for Nikita Sandra Cook, who is charged with first degree murder and kidnapping in connection to the investigation of Tiki Laverdiere’s death.
The 25 year old from Edmonton had attended a funeral for 20 year old Tristen Cook-Buckle on the Thunderchild First Nation in April of 2019.
She was last heard from in May and her remains were found by a police dog team in July of that year, just outside of North Battleford.
Ten people were charged in connection to this investigation.
The other trial is being held at Saskatoon Court of Queen’s Bench, where Greg Fertuck is charged with first degree murder and indignity to human remains in connection to the death of his estranged wife, Sheree Fertuck.
The 51 year old was last seen leaving her family’s farm east of Kenaston in December of 2015.
Her truck was found at the local gravel pit near Kenaston with her keys, coat and cell phone inside.
