It was a day for making amends for Cody Fajardo.
While the Saskatchewan Roughriders were back at work on the Mosaic Stadium turf, getting ready for the second of three consecutive meetings with the Stampeders this Saturday in Regina, it was what happened post practice that was the news. Fajardo opened his media availability Tuesday with an apology to his teammates and the fans. That stems from his post-game comments on Saturday, following Calgary’s 23-17 home-field victory, where the quarterback called out the receivers for not making enough plays down field. Fajardo said he met with the receivers earlier Tuesday morning to apologize and also said he tried to make amends on the flight home. Those attending practice Tuesday in Regina saw the offence meet as a group after practice with Fajardo saying the purpose was to give everyone a chance to vent any frustrations they may have.
Meanwhile, as for what was observed at Tuesday’s practice, place-kicker Brett Lauther didn’t come out to start, but eventually made it to the sidelines, but did not taking part in drills. He appeared to be shaken up after recovering his own onside kick-off late in Saturday’s contest. As for receivers, Shaq Evans was on the field, doing some work on his own. Head coach Craig Dickenson says Evans and his broken foot are still three-to-four weeks away from returning. Dickenson added that newly-signed receiver Duke Williams should be in the line-up following the bye week on October 23rd in Calgary. Canadians Justin McInnis and Mitch Picton split starters reps at a receiver spot while Dickenson says not to expect Jordan Williams-Lambert back this season. He’s home in the States with a wrist injury that will likely require surgery.
