The Big City Mayors’ Caucus met with the Prime Minister earlier this week to discuss next steps on key election commitments from the federal government.
Saskatoon Mayor Charlie Clark says it was striking to hear how urgent the issue of homelessness is across the country.
The mayors discussed with each other and the Prime Minister the need to come up with much more coordinated approaches between all orders of government to fix the broken systems that are leaving people on the streets.
The Caucus also pushed for the extension of supports for cities to address revenue shortfalls driven by the pandemic, especially from transit losses, and how to help cities balance the books without having to raise taxes or cut services.
Clark is also helping to lead a conversation about how the Big City Mayor’s Caucus can expand its work on Reconciliation.
