The Regina Police Service says they have received multiple files this year in regards to purchases of used vehicles.
That’s why the police service has some tips for those looking buy a used vehicle. Do your research to determine the vehicle’s value and to see whether or not the vehicle is priced fairly. Use an internet site such as Kelley Blue Book, CARFAX , Auto trader, etc. Obtain a Pre-Purchase Inspection. This will determine the existing conditions and any potential future problems.
Search the VIN number. This can be done using the Canadian Police Information Centre’s website to see if the vehicle has been reported stolen. SGI also offers the service for a fee.
The last tip from the RPS is to obtain a vehicle history report. Companies such as CARFAX can provide a Vehicle history report which will include information such as accidents and service history, etc.
