The North Battleford Queen’s Bench judge in Nikita Cook’s murder trial is expected to hand over a verdict today (Wed), more than two years after the remains of Tiki Laverdiere were found in a rural area outside of North Battleford.
The 25 year old Edmonton woman had been reported missing in May of 2019.
Laverdiere had attended a funeral for 20 year old Tristen Cook-Buckle on the Thunderchild First Nation the month before.
Ten people have been charged in connection to this homicide investigation.
Nikita Cook has pleaded not guilty to first degree murder and kidnapping.
Three of the ten people charged in connection to the investigation have been sentenced.
Brent Checkosis and Mavis Takakenew pled guilty to accessory after the fact to murder and Charles St. Savard pled guilty to kidnapping.
Six others, Nicole Cook, Soaring Eagle Whitstone, Shayla Orthner, Danita Thomas and Jesse Sangster have been charged with first degree murder, improperly interfering with a body and kidnapping.
