Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke with the Leaders of the Conservative Party and the Green Party on Wednesday ahead of the return to Parliament on November 22nd. Trudeau emphasized the need for all MPs in the House of Commons to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Both Conservative Party Leader Erin O’Toole and Green Party Leader, Elizabeth May, presented the Prime Minister with their party’s views on the topic.
Trudeau says the government’s key priorities are finishing the fight against the pandemic, creating jobs and growing the middle class, addressing affordability for housing and child care, and advancing reconciliation for Indigenous peoples, including the implementation of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. The meeting is part of the Prime Minister’s consultations with opposition leaders prior to the next session of Parliament.
Trudeau also talked about the ongoing need to tackle climate change ahead of the United Nations Climate Change Conference called the COP26 summit. Other priorities for the Liberal Party are banning conversion therapy, ten days of paid sick leave for federally regulated workers, and making it a criminal offence to harass or threaten health care workers.
