Twelve new deaths have been reported in Saskatchewan as part of the provincial government’s daily dashboard COVID-19 update Friday. The Saskatoon zone continues to account for majority of the new novel coronavirus infections with 78 of the new 300 recorded in the Saskatoon area. The South East reported the second most cases Friday with 43 followed by Regina with 38. 308 residents are receiving hospital care for the virus with 80 of those in Saskatchewan ICUs. An additional six Saskatchewan residents are being cared for in Ontario ICUs. Of the 308 hospitalized patients, 226 were not fully vaccinated. The 12 new deaths Friday brings the provincial pandemic death toll to 812. The seven-day average for new cases in Saskatchewan is at 312.
Below are the highlights posted to the Government of Saskatchewan’s dashboard:
- As of October 22nd , there are 300 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the total to 75,842 reported cases
- The new cases are located in the Far North West (3), Far North East (20), North West (25), North Central (16), North East (6), Saskatoon (78), Central West (5), Central East (32), Regina (38), South Central (12), and South East (43) zones and 22 new cases have pending residence information
- 24 cases with pending residence information were assigned to Far North West (from October 4 (1), October 20 (1)), North West (from September 12 (1), September 16 (1), September 23 (1), October 17 (1), October 20 (2)), North Central (from October 19 (6), October 20 (3)), Saskatoon (from October 20 (2)), Central East (from October 4 (1), October 18 (1), October 20 (1)), Regina (from October 12 (1)), and South Central (from October 20 (1)) zones
- Two (2) cases tested out of province were added to the case totals in Central East (from October 19 (1)) and Regina (from October 16 (1)) zones
- 75,842 cases are confirmed
- 18,285 cases are from the Saskatoon area
- 18,614 cases are from the North area (8,273 North West, 7,616 North Central, 2,725 North East)
- 14,910 cases are from the Regina area
- 8,959 cases are from the Far North area (4,184 Far North West, 541 Far North Central, 4,234 Far North East)
- 9,184 cases are from the South area (2,057 South West, 2,787 South Central, 4,340 South East)
- 5,264 cases are from the Central area (1,374 Central West, 3,890 Central East)
- 626 cases have pending residence information
- 3,135 cases are considered active and 71,895 cases are considered recovered
- One-third (33%) of new cases are in the age category of 11 or under
- Over one-fourth (28.9%) of new cases eligible for vaccination (aged 12 years and older) were fully vaccinated
- As of October 22nd, a total of 308 individuals are hospitalized, including 228 inpatient hospitalizations and 80 ICU hospitalizations. Of the 308 patients, 226 (73.4%) were not fully vaccinated. Zero (0) cases were transferred, for a total of six (6) SK cases that have been transferred out-of-province to Ontario. As these patients are receiving care out of province, this number is not included in the hospitalization counts in dashboard.
- Twelve (12) new deaths reported today. 812 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 have died, with a case fatality rate of 1.1%.
- 1,205,702 COVID-19 tests have been performed in the province. As of October 20, 2021, when other provincial and national numbers are available from PHAC, Saskatchewan’s per capita rate was 1,016,188 tests performed per million. The national rate of 1,194,426 tests performed per million.
- The 7-day average of new COVID-19 case numbers was 312(25.9 new cases per 100,000)
