The President of SEIU West says the Sask Party government’s mismanagement of the pandemic has been political, deliberate and unapologetic since Day One.
Barb Cape considers it audacious that the province pursued options in the United States rather than taking the offered help from the federal government, resulting in delayed relief for the province.
She believes signs of problems in the health care system began before the pandemic, with long wait times for surgeries and to get in to see a specialist.
Cape expects many health care workers will have to deal with mental health issues, because working in these chaotic and stressful situations is going to crush people with what they have seen and the decisions they have had to make.
Cape says health care workers of all stripes are calling on citizens to contact their MLAs and ask them to take responsibility for the mistakes made and to provide clear and transparent plans to get the COVID-19 numbers under control.
SEIU West represents over 13,000 people across Saskatchewan including those who work in health care, education, municipalities, community based organizations and retirement homes.
